2017-18

End of Year Report-

 

The regular season for High School basketball ended at Keene Central. All of the four teams from Keene Central ended their seasons with winning records. The Boys Modified finished their season with a record of 12-1. This season they were led in scoring by Sebastian Smith. The Girls Modified ended their season with a record of 10-2. They were led in scoring by Caitlin Quinn. The Boys Varsity ended the year 11-10. They were led in scoring by Azriel Finsterer. The Varsity boys lost their sectional quarter final game to Crown Point. The Varsity girls ended their season with a record of 14-5. They were led in scoring by Hanna Whitney. This year they will be losing seniors Hanna Whitney, Elania Smith, and Daria Venner. They beat Johnsburg in the quarter final game and Schroon Lake in the semi final game. The varsity girls made it to the class D sections 7 final game that they lost to Moriah for the third year in a row.

Tuesday, December 13th

 

Varsity Girls-

Keene fell to the Griffins 48-41. Elaina Smith led scoring with 13 points followed by sister, Elly Smith with 11 points. Hanna Whitney had 8 points, Daria Vener had 6 points, Caitlyn Lopez had 4 points and Emily Whitney had 1 point.

 

Wednesday, December 14th

 

Varsity Boys- Varsity boys downed Westport 34-22. Azriel Finsterer led scoring with 11 points followed by Antonio Finsterer with 7 points. Damian Brown and Miles Warner each had 6 points and Josh Baldwin had 4 points.   

 

Thursday, December 15th

 

Varsity girls- Keene downed the Seton Catholic Knights 54-39. Elaina Smith dropped in 22 points along with sister Elly who found the net for 11 points. Both ended the game with double-doubles. A double double is when a player has a performance where they have double digit numbers in two of five statistical categories. Hanna Whitney scored 8 points followed by Caitlyn Lopez with 6, Emily Whitney with 5, and Alyssa Summo with 2 points.

 

Friday, December 16th

 

Varsity Boys- Seton Catholic beat Keene 61-46. Miles Warner scored the team high 16 points. Josh Baldwin found the net for 13 points and Az Finsterer also in double figures with 11 points. Damian Brown had 4 points along with Antonio Finsterer who had 2.

 

Tuesday, December 20th

 

Varsity girls- Keene downed the Chazy Eagles 59-18. The Beavers started the game with a 24-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. Elaina Smith dropped 28 points to lead Keene offensively. Hanna Whitney had 18 points, connecting on four three pointers in the process. Lura Johnson found the net for 5 points along with Daria Venner and Alyssa Summo both with 4 points.

 

Wednesday, December 21st

 

Varsity boys- Keene blew away Chazy 65-24. In the first quarter Keene had a large 24-3 lead. The Beavers scoring was led by Damian Brown with 14 points. Miles Warner had 12 points, Az Finsterer had 10 points. Tom Palen had 9 points, Antonio Finsterer had 8 points.
 

Tuesday, January 3rd

 

Varsity girls- Keene downed Willsboro 62-23. Hanna Whitney ended with a triple double, she totaled 19 points, 10 assists and 13 steals in the win. Elaina Smith added 17 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. Elly smith had 9 points, Alyssa Summo 6, Emily Whitney 5, Caitlyn Lopez 2, Lura Johnson 2, Daria Venner 2.

 

Wednesday, January 4th

 

Varsity Boys- Willsboro downed Keene 46-37. Azriel Finsterer had 14 points in the first half and 19 points on the night. Damian Brown had 6 points. Antonio Finsterer and Miles Warner scored 5 points and Josh Baldwin scored 2.

 

Friday, January 6th

 

Varsity Boys- Keene downed the Lion’s 50-44 in Elizabethtown on friday. Miles Warner tossed in 14 with Antonio Finsterer putting in 12 to anchor Keene. Damian Brown and Azriel Finsterer both had 9 points along with Josh Baldwin who had 3 points and Noah Haverlik with 1 point.

 

Monday, January 9th

 

Varsity Boys- Keene fell to Schroon Lake 39-33. Antonio Finsterer carried Keene in scoring with 14 points. Azriel Finsterer had an 8 point game, Damian Brown with 5 points, Miles Werner 4 points, and Josh Baldwin with 2 points.   

 

Tuesday, January 10th

 

Varsity Girls- The Beavers blew away the Blue Bombers 58-9. Elaina Smith ended the night with 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double double. Hanna Whitney tossed in 17 points while Elly Smith added 10. Caitlyn Lopez tossed in 6, Daria Venner 5, Emily Whitney 4, and Lura Johnson 1. Keene kept Lake Placid scoreless in both the first and fourth quarters.

 

Modified Girls- Keene beat Lake Placid in a low scoring 14-4 game. At halftime Keene was up 4-1. Lake Placid scored 1 point in the first and 3 in the fourth. Keene scored an average 3.5 points per quarter.
 

Friday, January 13th

 

Varsity Boys- Crown Point downed Keene 61-39. Miles Warner led Keene’s scoring with 12 points. Damian Brown followed with 9 points and Azriel Finsterer with 8. Josh Baldwin tossed in 5 along with Lucas Isham and Tom Palen each with 2.


 

Varsity Girls- Hanna Whitney finished with a triple-double as Keene downed Crown Point 55-43. Along with Hanna Whitney, Elaina Smith and Elly Smith both finished with double-doubles. Whitney led scoring for the Beavers throwing in 22 points. Elaina Smith put up 11 points with Elly Smith putting in 10. Alyssa Summo put in 6, Daria Venner 4, and Caitlyn Lopez 2.   


 

Thursday, January 19th

 

Varsity Boys- Keene came through with a 34-32 win against Westport. Coming into the final seconds of play the game was 33-32, Keene ahead by only one. An intentional foul committed by Westport resulted in a technical foul called. Damin Brown stepped to the line to shoot as a result of the technical. Damin made one of two shots putting Keene up 34-32 in the closing seconds. Damian rounded out the night with 7 points. Antonio Finsterer and Miles Warner each had a 9 point game. Azriel Finsterer had 6 points and Josh Baldwin had 3.    

 

Friday, January 20th

 

Varsity Boys- Elaina Smith ended the night with a triple-double and a game high 22 points in the 64-56 win against Elizabethtown/Lewis-Westport Griffins. Hanna Whitney (19 points) and Alyssa Summo (10 points) also finish with double figures for Keene. Daria Venner found the basket for 9 points. Emily Whitney and Caitlyn Lopez both with 2 points.   

 

Friday, January 27th

 

Varsity Girls- The Beavers downed Bolton 66-23 in girls basketball. Three Keene players had double figures to end the game. Hanna Whitney threw in 23 points with Elaina Smith knocking in 19 and Elly Smith putting 13. Alyssa Summo put in 6 along with Emily Whitney who had 3 and Caitlyn Lopez with 2. Keene keep Bolton scoreless in the second quarter and allowed only one basket in the fourth quarter.

 

Tuesday, January 31st

 

Seton Catholic beat Keene 69-51. Azriel Finsterer scored a team high 13 points. Damian Brown wasn’t far behind with 12 points along with Miles Warner who found the net for 11 points. Josh Baldwin dropped in 8 points along with Antonio Finsterer who had 7 points.

 

Wednesday, February 1st

 

Varsity Girls- Keene beat Seton Catholic in a close 48-43 matchup. Hanna Whitney (14 points), Elly Smith (10 points) and Elaina Smith (10 points) all finished in double figures for the Beavers. Alyssa Summo found the net for 8 points while Caitlyn Lopez had 6.
