On Sunday 18th the tenth grade class gathered their bags to head out into the Ausable Club on a three day overnight trip. They started out paddling across the lower lake through the to their first portage that led them to the upper lake. From there they paddled about 500 yards over to Panorama, the first camp on the Upper Lake. With a view of the great range the students set up their gear in the lean to and moved into the cabins for the night.

On the first day students took a hike up Haystack Mountain. The trip up was 3.5 miles and the trip down was 4 miles, a round trip of 7.5 miles. On the hike the students saw the tallest mountain in New York state, Mount Marcy from the top of Haystack. Most students enjoyed the trip up the steep slopes. “I enjoyed the trip.” Skyler Coffin says. “We should have spent much less time on top of Haystack, and in it's stead, gone and hiked Marcy in addition. The weather was great, and on the morning of the last day, we woke up to a beautiful view of the mountains rising out of the early fog, silhouetted by the rising sun.” Kyle Shambo said, “I thought it was really fun, especially eating dinner with everyone and getting to know the foreign exchange students better. It was disappointing though that I couldn't go on the hike because of my foot injury.” Caitlyn Lopez said. “The lakes trip was fun. Although I hate hiking.” The next day on the way out of the lakes the students stopped at Rainbow falls, a 150 foot tall waterfall that is a sixth of a mile from the dam at the beginning of the Lower Lake. It is a spectacular view and when the sun hits it just right a rainbow sparkles in the sky, giving it it’s name.
