Although Earth Day was several days ago, this coming Wednesday (April 26th) students grades 7-12 from Keene Central School will take to the streets to demonstrate their regard for the environment, and to clean up their town.

Groups will be headed to locations such as Hurricane Mountain, Point Park, Church Street, and many others, armed with trash bags, rubber gloves, and masks of Al Gore’s face, ready to take on any unfortunate ivory smugglers they come across.

Environmentalism is a daily practice at Keene Central School, with its gardens, recycling, and composting programs, and many students choose to take this a step further, acting through the student-run Green Team environmental club. Many students have also chosen to build shrines to various climate activists throughout the school.

Throughout the afternoon, students will be working with their groups on projects such as picking up trash and litter, as well as clearing branches and sticks from the road and public fields. So if you see any students out cleaning up the town, be sure to wave, and maybe offer them a delicious spoonful of creamy Jif peanut butter. Elementary age students will be learning about the environment and taking part in educational activities back at the school.
